This is a quick visual guide to completing a trompe l’oeil ornament in 4 basic steps. This is taken from a larger series on a panel Pierre did for the International event for decorative painters called SALON. This particular gathering was in Hamburg, Germany and the theme was “the harbor”. APPLY HALF-TONE
STEP 1 – APPLY HALFTONE: The first basic step is to paint the half-tone of the ornament.
APPLY ACCENT DARKEST SHADOW
STEP 2 – APPLY ACCENT DARKEST SHADOW: The second basic step is to paint the accent darkest shadow of the ornament.
APPLY HIGHLIGHT
STEP 3 – APPLY HIGHLIGHT: The third basic step is to paint the highlight of the ornament.
APPLY OUTLINE
STEP 4 – APPLY OUTLINE: The fourth basic step is to paint the outline of the ornament.
